[db] was commissioned to create a video sequence to punctuate and accompany a contemporary dance production, of love and number, a meditation on birth and isolation, moving towards perception and love.

working within closely defined time slots and given a guide to how each slot should feel, we created a series of 2d and 3d animations, edited together with specially commissioned digital video and photography.

the video clips were intended to be not so much a background, but to be as important to the production as the dance itself. there were to be segments where the dancers would interact with the video, and even the projection screen itself, and segments where the video was shown in isolation.

we worked closely with the choreographer and music coordinator to make sure the whole production fitted together as a whole, with ideas, as well as the audience's attention, flowing freely between the dance and video.

the finished production was a resounding success, playing to sell out audiences throughout its run. it proved to be an energising and rewarding experience for everyone involved.
